After 30 years of service as a teacher/administrator in the Versailles Exempted Village School System, I retired a few years ago following my wife who also taught school at our South building for an equal length of time. Our sons, Todd and Justin graduated from Greenville High School in 1989 and 1994 respectively. I followed in my dad's footsteps, he served as principal at the South Building for a number of years.
Since retiring from teaching I got involved heavily with the Greenville School System and have been a part of the Board of Education now for eight years. I have served as President of the board in years past and look forward to serving again in that capacity.
I've also been involved in the community by being on he board of the Greenville Schools Foundation for 8 years and the Southwest Ohio School Boards Association Executive Committee. I get to go to Columbus a couple of times a year to the Ohio School Boards Association board of trustees also. I represent the Ohio School Board Association at the Federal Relations Network. I've done that for three years and consider it a great honor. I always feel as though I'm really representing Greenville Schools any time I attend a state level meeting. My community involvement includes 17 years as the secretary of Greenville Elks Lodge 1139, 48 year member of the Knights of Columbus and 23 years on the FAME board of directors.
I've tried to always vote on issues using what I know and what I've studied on the issue at hand. Looking at all sides of the situation, gives a person the best advantage when the tough items come before the board. I feel that the students are the first priority. Our oldest son is a multiple handicapped adult and during his time in school I became keenly aware of the problems that a person in his condition has but also the problems that it creates for the teachers and staff. I feel that I now always look out for the best interests of the students first and I will continue to do that. One of the things that serving on state wide boards allows you to do is see first hand the shortsightedness that gets other school systems into trouble It has been a big help.
Our oldest granddaughter is now a kindergartner at Woodland Heights. Her little sisters won't be far behind. I want to continue to give back to Greenville Schools some of the knowledge I've learned. Deciding the course of the school system whether it is curriculum, sports or new buildings can't be taken lightly.
You've all been able to depend on me in the past, I hope you'll consider me as a candidate you can continue to depend on when you vote November 8. Don't hesitate to use the email box at the top if you have questions.
